Alcohol Consumption Change

You may want to drink less, stop drinking in certain situations, or change the role alcohol plays in your life—but find yourself returning to patterns you have tried to change. Luma Theta works with the deeper subconscious, emotional, and behavioral patterns that may influence your alcohol consumption. Hypnotherapy may help support greater awareness, control, and the ability to make choices that better align with your goals.

It’s easy to have our relationship with alcohol get away from us.

Maybe you drink more often than you want to. You tell yourself you’ll only have one or two drinks, then regularly find yourself drinking more. You wake up feeling disappointed, decide you’re going to cut back, and then find the same pattern repeating a few days later.

For some people, alcohol has simply become part of the routine.

A drink after work. Something to take the edge off. A way to relax, celebrate, socialize, sleep, or temporarily escape a stressful day. Over time, drinking can become automatic—even when it didn’t start that way and even when you genuinely want to change it.

You may have searched for help with drinking, ways to drink less, how to control your drinking, or alternative approaches to reducing alcohol consumption. You may not feel that traditional treatment for alcohol problems is right for you. You may simply want greater control over your choices and a different relationship with alcohol.

That’s where a different approach can help.

Why Is It So Hard to Drink Less?

Reducing alcohol consumption isn’t always as simple as deciding to drink less.

Your subconscious mind and body may have learned to associate alcohol with relief, reward, relaxation, confidence, connection, or escape. Over time, the brain can begin linking certain situations with the expectation of drinking. When stress, social situations, evenings at home, or other familiar circumstances show up, the urge to drink may begin before you consciously decide what you actually want to do.

This is one reason people can genuinely want to cut back on drinking and still find themselves repeating the same behavior.

At Luma Theta, we work with the patterns underneath the behavior.

Through deep, theta-based hypnotherapy, we help you explore the situations, emotions, expectations, and learned associations connected to drinking from a new perspective. Rather than relying only on willpower, we work to help create and reinforce different options in the moments when you would normally reach for alcohol.

Through neurosomatic reinforcement, your body can begin practicing what those new options feel like.

Imagine getting home after a stressful day and actually being able to relax without automatically thinking about a drink.

Imagine deciding how much you want to drink—and having your actions more naturally align with that decision.

Imagine being in social situations without feeling like alcohol is the only way to unwind, connect, feel confident, or have fun.

Your mind and body knew how to do those things before alcohol became associated with them. They can begin learning new ways to create those experiences again.

The goal isn’t to simply white-knuckle your way through every urge.

It’s to create greater freedom, choice, and control in your relationship with alcohol.

An Alternative Approach to Changing Your Drinking Habits

Depending on your personal preferences, learning style, and the longevity and complexity of the patterns you’ve been dealing with, Luma Theta offers two primary approaches to creating change:

Rapid Rewire Changework uses 1–3 deep, extended sessions designed to help create meaningful change quickly by working intensively with the underlying patterns connected to the issue.

The Reteaching Method uses approximately 3–8 shorter sessions for each desired change, allowing us to repeatedly introduce, practice, reinforce, and build on new emotional and somatic responses over time.

For most people who have experienced the pull toward alcohol for an extended period of time, a combination of both methods are often recommended. You may book a complimentary consultation to learn more about what will be most right for you, or simply begin with your first Rapid Rewire Session.

You can learn more about what these approaches look like and decide which may be the better fit for you on our About Our Sessions page.
